Verity Mod Forge Setup
Verity JE runs on Forge, the mod loader for Minecraft Java Edition. If Forge is not set up correctly, Verity JE will not appear in the game at all. This guide installs Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1, adds GeckoLib, and fixes the Forge errors players hit most.
What Is Forge?
Forge is a free mod loader: a modified version of the Minecraft launcher profile that lets .jar mods run. Verity JE is a Forge mod, which means it needs a Forge profile to load. Forge does not change vanilla gameplay on its own — it just makes modding possible. If you are starting from scratch, follow the Java Edition install guide first.
Install Forge 1.20.1 in 5 Steps
- Download the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.20.1 from the official Forge site. Ignore any site that bundles the installer with extra software — the official installer is a single .jar.
- Run the installer, choose “Install client,” and confirm. It creates a new “Forge” profile in the Minecraft launcher.
- Open the Minecraft launcher, select the Forge profile, and launch the game once. This creates the .minecraft/mods folder and the config folder. Close the game.
- Download GeckoLib for Forge 1.20.1 and the Verity JE .jar file (stable 5.7.4) from the official CurseForge project page, and place both files in the .minecraft/mods folder.
- Launch the Forge profile again. In the main menu, click Mods and confirm Verity JE and GeckoLib are listed. If they are, Forge setup is complete.

If the mods folder does not exist yet, launch the Forge profile once — Forge creates it on first run.
