Verity Mod Troubleshooting

Verity not working is almost always a setup problem, not a broken mod. This page collects the fixes for the problems players hit most, for Java and Bedrock separately. Work through your edition’s table top to bottom — the first rows solve most cases.

Java Edition Problems

ProblemFix
Mod does not appear in the mod listWrong mods folder or wrong profile; confirm Forge 1.20.1 is selected in the launcher and the .jar is in .minecraft/mods
Game crashes on launchVersion mismatch or missing GeckoLib; match Forge 1.20.1, GeckoLib for Forge 1.20.1, and Verity JE 5.7.4
Verity does not talkMissing or wrong Groq API key; re-paste the key in Options, Mods, Verity JE, Config, AI Settings
Verity talks but ignores commandsAPI key works but the mod version mismatches the game version; confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 and Verity JE 5.7.4
Microphone does not workCheck the mod’s settings and your system microphone permissions
Poor performanceAllocate more RAM in the launcher’s Forge profile and remove conflicting mods

Bedrock Edition Problems

ProblemFix
Add-on does not activateBehavior and resource packs not enabled in world settings; enable both
Verity does not respondBeta APIs off, cheats off, or connect command not run; check all three
File does not importWrong file type (a Java .jar will never work on Bedrock) or unsupported Bedrock version; confirm the .mcaddon and Bedrock 26.30
Game crashes or lagsRemove conflicting add-ons and test VERITY BE alone in a new world
Verity responds but acts strangelyBehavior changes across the four phases are normal; strange behavior over time is the mod working as designed

Problems on Both Editions

  • World damage: restore your backup and test Verity in a new world. Never install a horror mod in your main long-term world without a backup.
  • Conflicting mods or add-ons: test Verity alone first. If it works alone, re-add other mods one at a time to find the conflict.
  • Wrong edition file: double-check you downloaded the file for your edition. Java and Bedrock files are not interchangeable.

Still Stuck?

Re-read the install guide for your edition (Java Edition install guide and Bedrock Edition install guide), then check the official project page on CurseForge for the latest version notes. If the problem started after an update, rolling back to the previous stable version usually helps.
